Music Conductor

Osvaldo Mendoza is a conductor and composer from Juarez, Mexico. He holds a master’s degree in Theory and Composition from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award-winning composer Kevin Puts.

Harold Reeves is a Southern California violinist and graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Cleveland Institute of Music. He has studied with distinguished violinists including Mikhail Kopelman, Ilya Kaler, Philip Setzer, Zvi Zeitlin, and Glenn Dicterow.

Bridget Dolkas currently serves as Second Principal Violin of the CPO. She believes that music has the power to heal, inspire, and bring people together. She brings passion, intention, and a sense of humor to both her teaching and performing.

Quyen Nguyen is an accomplished violist, soloist, chamber musician, and educator with over 20 years of experience. She has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe, appeared on the Monster House soundtrack, and premiered works by contemporary composers.

Principal Cello

Kate Speck enjoys a varied career as a cellist, educator, and composer throughout San Diego. Recently, Kate has taken on the role of principal cello for the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra as well as joining the Coronado String Quartet. In addition to performing and teaching, Kate studies luthier work under the tutelage of Jade J. Schulz.

Principal Bass

Darrell Cheng joined the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra bass section during the 2023-2024 season. He studied double bass at UCSD with Han Han Cho and Mark Dresser, graduating with BA’s in Music and Economics in 2011.
