1st ANNUAL

CONCERTO
COMPETITION

The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra is excited to present the 1st Annual 2025 “CPO Concerto Competition,” open to young instrumentalists aged 7 to 21. Eligible participants may compete on strings, winds, brass, piano, harp and guitar.

Ages

  • Kinder Mozart - Ages 7-12

  • Young Beethoven - Ages 13-17

  • Au Fait Bach - Ages 18-21

Fees

$50 non-refundable fee per contestant

Deadlines

February 8, 2025: Sign Up and Video Submission. Video should contain no more than 15 minutes of performance. It must be a one shot with no editing or will not be accepted.

 

February 22, 2025: Contestants will be notified if they advance to the next step in the process.

 

March 8, 2025: Contest will take place in Coronado High School. 650 D Ave, Coronado, CA. (Every contestant MUST have an accompanist. CPO will not provide one. ) 

 

March 8, 2025 @ 7 pm: The winner will be announced at intermission at our next concert: “Movie Night” w/the Coronado Philharmonia Concert on March, 8th, 2025, 7pm at the CPAC, 650 D Ave, Coronado, CA

Awards/Prizes

15 contestants (5 from each category) will be invited to perform in front of our judge panel.

 

  • Kinder Mozart ages (7-12)

1st prize Gold Medal and $250. Winner will play with CPO at the June 1 concert.

2nd prize Silver Medal

3rd prize Bronze Medal

 

  • Young Beethoven  (ages 13-17)

1st prize Gold Medal and $500. Winner will play with CPO at the June 1 concert.

2nd prize Silver Medal

3rd prize Bronze Medal

 

  • Au Fait Bach  (ages 18-21)

1st prize Gold Medal and $1000. Winner will play with CPO at the June 1 concert.

2nd prize Silver Medal

3rd prize Bronze Medal

Rules

  • Participants should play ONLY ONE  movement from the concerto. 

  • Applicants must provide one original copy of the part & score of their piece of choice: a PDF upload for the preliminary video submission and an original for the final round in person.

  • Memorization is required.

  • Applicants must provide their own accompanist.

  • No repertoire changes are allowed after registration.

  • The decision of the judges is final.
